Linda's Health Journey
My life was moving full steam ahead when my health began to change.
At first, I did not understand what was happening. My energy slowly diminished. I became weaker. I could no longer keep up with the life I had built. Eventually, I had to close my psychology practice, though I did not yet realize kidney disease was behind so much of what I was feeling.
It was kidney failure - quiet, progressive and cruel. I give thanks to my nephrologist, Dr. Arora, who I believe saved my life.
Today, I am in Stage Five Kidney Failure. My kidney function has continued to decline, and I live with fatigue, shortness of breath, and other symptoms that make daily life harder.
I have been approved by Northwestern Medicine in Chicago for a living donor kidney transplant. I have completed the required testing and am cleared for transplant. What I need now is a living kidney donor.
I want more time.
More time with my wonderful husband, Jack. More time with my children and grandchildren. More time with family and friends. More time to live with purpose. I'm just not done yet. I want to return to my psychology practice that meant so much to me: helping children and adults heal.
If you are even slightly curious about living kidney donation, the first step is not surgery. It's a 15-20 minute health questionnaire through Northwestern Medicine. It's totally confidential. Starting the process isn't a commitment - you can change your mind anytime - it's totally private.
And if donation is not right for you, sharing my story can still help. One share may reach the person I have been hoping to find.
